Environmental Advisory Council (EAC)

Board of Supervisors Protecting Our Rural Character Through Responsible Planning and Environmental Stewardship

Lowhill Township has established an Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) to provide the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission with additional research, professional insight, recommendations, and community perspectives on environmental matters affecting the Township.

The creation of the EAC reflects the Township's continued commitment to proactive planning, responsible environmental stewardship, and the preservation of the natural resources and rural landscapes that define Lowhill Township.

The Council's guiding principle is simple:

"Protecting Lowhill's rural character requires more than preserving what we have today-it requires thoughtful planning, responsible stewardship, and a commitment to safeguarding what future generations will inherit."

Purpose and Responsibilities of The EAC

The Environmental Advisory Council serves strictly as an advisory body. It does not approve development plans, issue permits, enact regulations, or supersede the authority of the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Township Engineer, or other regulatory and reviewing agencies.

Instead, its responsibility is to research and evaluate environmental matters, provide objective recommendations, and assist Township officials in making informed decisions that consider both present needs and long-term environmental impacts.

The Council's areas of interest may include:

  • Preservation of farmland, agricultural resources, and open space.
  • Protection of streams, wetlands, floodplains, riparian corridors, and water resources.
  • Conservation of woodlands, wildlife habitats, and environmentally sensitive lands.
  • Environmental and farmland conservation planning and natural resource protection.
  • Environmental education, community awareness, and voluntary conservation initiatives.
  • Research and review of environmental information when requested by the Board of Supervisors or Planning Commission.

Meet Lowhill's New Environmental Advisory Council

Lowhill Township is pleased to recognize the five residents appointed to serve on its newly established Environmental Advisory Council:

  • Tracy LaSalla
  • Annette Dadura
  • Heath Potter
  • Loretta Igo
  • Tom Zubey

These individuals have generously volunteered their time to serve their community, contribute their knowledge and perspectives, and assist the Township in evaluating environmental issues that may influence Lowhill's future. Their willingness to participate reflects the importance of community involvement in protecting the Township's rural heritage and natural resources.

Planning Today For Future Generations

The establishment of the Environmental Advisory Council represents another important step in Lowhill Township's broader commitment to planning ahead rather than reacting after problems arise.

As development pressures, infrastructure demands, and environmental challenges continue to evolve, the Township recognizes that protecting its rural character requires more than simply responding to individual development proposals. It requires a coordinated, forward-looking approach that recognizes the relationship between land use, natural resources, infrastructure, and the long-term interests of the community.

The EAC will serve as an additional resource in that effort, helping ensure that environmental considerations remain part of the Township's planning discussions while respecting the established responsibilities and decision-making authority of its elected and appointed officials.

Lowhill Township's objective is not to prevent responsible growth, but to ensure that growth is thoughtfully planned, environmentally informed, and compatible with the rural character that residents value.

The creation of the Environmental Advisory Council reinforces a fundamental commitment: the decisions we make today should protect the natural resources, rural landscapes, and quality of life that future generations of Lowhill Township residents deserve to inherit.
